Vance warns against AI deals with ‘authoritarian regimes’

US Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday warned global leaders against striking artificial intelligence deals with “authoritarian regimes”, in a thinly veiled jab against China during a summit on AI in Paris.

“Partnering with them means chaining your nation to an authoritarian master that seeks to infiltrate, dig in and seize your information infrastructure,” Vance said, pointing to “cheap tech… heavily subsidised and exported by authoritarian regimes”.
