Back in December 2020, the court appointed to Sergei Marakov a house arrest, but the Supreme Court of Chechnya, despite the problems of a health lawyer, replaced him with a preventive measure for detention, and also sent an initiated case against him for re -consideration. Subsequently, the term of the detention of Marakov in custody has repeatedly extended, in total over 9 months.
The fact that 72-year-old Sergey Marakov was released by a cassation court from the Severe pre-trial detention center on a recognizance not to leave, his lawyers said.
The last time the court in Grozny extended the term of the lawyer in custody on September 6 – until December 7, and the decision to change the preventive measure to Marakov was made by the fifth cassation court of general jurisdiction in Pyatigorsk. The Cassation Court agreed with the arguments of the defense and changed the measure of restraint to a recognizance not to leave and proper behavior.
Recall that Marakova was first arrested in Grozny for 10 days under an administrative article on petty hooliganism, and then accused of drug trafficking. The defense said that the security forces were thrown by the drugs, the lawyer himself connected criminal prosecution with his professional activities. One of Marakov’s last affairs was associated with land disputes with the authorities in Grozny. For the first time in the history of modern Russia, the Cassation Court, in fact, agreed that the courts in Chechnya were not capable of passing a reasonable sentence and transferred it to another region for objective consideration of the case.
