These are not empty horror stories; in the last quarter alone, Sber withstood 450 cyber attacks and another 350 were carried out by its subsidiaries. According to Stanislav Kuznetsov, Deputy Chairman of the Sber Board, the attack statistics are comparable to the previous five-year period.
In addition to the usual DDoS attacks, scammers are already looking for new methods of deceiving ordinary citizens, for example, by creating deepfakes of a person’s relatives who ask him for financial help.
“We now encounter deepfakes extremely rarely, but we believe that in the near future this type of information war is possible. And we are already recording the first examples of this,” he said.
In August, Sber received two patents for technologies created as part of a study to identify deepfakes. The result of the work was an increase in the accuracy and efficiency of detecting synthetic changes in images of people’s faces in videos.
“This is a real cyber war,” he concluded.
