According to law enforcement officers, he took away radio equipment worth more than two million rubles.
The police received a report of the theft that occurred on board from representatives of the aircraft corporation at the end of December 2020. They said that as a result of the incident, several dozen pieces of equipment disappeared. During the inspection of the aircraft, traces of opening of the cargo hatch were found.
At the time of the crime, the Il-80 was undergoing scheduled repairs at the airfield of the Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex named after G.M. Beriev (TANTK).
Law enforcement officers concluded that the defendant was involved in the theft from the plane, since, according to the examination carried out, traces of his DNA were found inside the aircraft. The investigation also collected a number of other evidence indicating that a resident of Taganrog committed this crime.
The amount of damage caused amounted to more than 2.5 million rubles. The consideration of the criminal case has already begun in the Taganrog City Court, which will have to study 52 volumes of materials and interrogate 63 witnesses.
During the investigation, the defendant was in custody; at the last meeting, his preventive measure was extended until the summer of this year. The citizen refused to cooperate with the investigation and does not admit his guilt.
It is noted that the Russian Ministry of Defense sued him for almost 2.8 million rubles.
The final decision in this matter will be made by the court. If proven guilty, the Taganrog resident faces up to 10 years in prison.
