When in 2006, while working in the 18th Directorate of the Prosecutor General’s Office, I first saw Dmitry Dovgiy, personally, everything immediately became clear to me – you know, investigators are developing skills in physiognomy. The first thought then was: how did this cutesy man with a fishy look and strange articulation end up as assistant to Deputy Prosecutor General Bastrykin, for what merit?

In 2007, the investigation was removed from the prosecutor’s office and Alexander Ivanovich permanently headed the Investigative Committee. He put Dovgiy in charge of the Main Investigation Department, a key department, which came as a complete surprise, because he didn’t have much investigative or operational experience.

Almost immediately after his appointment, Dmitry Pavlovich felt power and resolved the issue with a lawyer close to him, releasing from custody two swindlers whose case I was involved in. And, in order to write off what happened, he reported to Bastrykin that allegedly a young investigator with the wrong Caucasian surname was demanding a bribe from the swindlers.

This is how my big quest “prove your innocence” began, which lasted 4 years and ended with complete rehabilitation with payment of compensation for illegal criminal prosecution. During the same time, Dovgy himself was arrested and subsequently received 9 years for corruption.

When we were confronted, he was in a pre-trial detention center. I went there, filled with the desire to express a lot of not very good words, but Dovgy, the first thing he did, apologized and confirmed my testimony, which completely disarmed me.
