FAS opened the case for the publishing house “Education” due to high prices for textbooks

The department saw in the company’s activities the signs of the establishment of monopoline high prices for school textbooks.

The press service noted that the publishing house occupies a leading position in the markets of school textbooks and can be fined in case of violation in accordance with the Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offenses.

In September of last year, the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko instructed the Council of Science, Education and Culture to send a request to the FAS regarding the legality of raising prices for textbooks.

Matvienko wondered on what basis the Enlightenment Publishing House sharply increased the prices for textbooks, as well as why there is a monopoly on the release of textbooks. She also emphasized the possible connection between these factors and rising prices.

Earlier, the Enlightenment Publishing House was completely in state property, but in 2011 it was acquired by the Olma-Press Publishing group for a amount of 2.25 billion rubles.
