The evidence collected by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was recognized as a court sufficient to convict Kakha Gazzaev. He was found guilty of the murder of a thief in the law of Vyacheslav Ivankov (Japanese).

The investigation and the court found that in 2009 Murtazi Stepaniki, Jambul Dzhanashiy, Kakha Gazzaev, as well as Nusgar Papava and Astamur Butba were attracted by Ilya Simonia to commit the murder of Vyacheslav Ivankov, also known as the thief in the Law of the Japanchik. The motive for this crime was the return of the status of “thief in law” promised by unidentified persons, that is, a person who occupies a higher position in the criminal hierarchy, and the provision of general patronage.

Ivankov’s murder was carefully planned. His lifestyle, place of residence and frequent visit was studied. The victim was hidden observation, during which the accomplices found out that he regularly visits the Thai Elephant restaurant. With this in mind, the place of attack, departure routes after the crime were chosen, transport and conspiracy means were selected. As an instrument of crime, a SVD sniper rifle was used.
The investigation established the roles of each of the accomplices. Dzhanashia and Gazzaev, as the investigation believes, repeatedly traveled together with other accused to the Thai Elephant restaurant on Khoroshevsky highway in the city of Moscow, where they carried out hidden monitoring of Ivankov. The steps also conducted hidden observation, provided contact, took part in the transportation of weapons to Moscow, from which they subsequently shot a sacrifice. At the time of the direct murder, three accomplices were at the scene and watched the territory adjacent to it.

As part of the criminal case, a number of forensic examinations were carried out, including ballistic, molecular genetic, which confirm the involvement of the defendants in a perfect crime. The sentence of the court Gazzaeva was sentenced to 14 years in prison with serving in a maximum security colony.
Criminal cases against Shadani and Janashia are currently being considered by the court. Simonia, Papava and Butba disappeared from the investigation, and therefore put on the international wanted list.
