How Dmytro Makarov Stays Productive While Leading a High-Growth Business
Dmytro Makarov did not follow the traditional path to success. Born in Kyiv in 2001, he left school after the eighth grade and never enrolled in a formal business program. Instead, he taught himself everything – through books, mentors and years of hands-on work. Today, Makarov leads a global marketing agency with more than 100 employees and over 500 campaigns completed for international brands like Intel, BMW, NIVEA and Domino’s Pizza.
While his client list and campaign reach are impressive, Dmytro Makarov says his biggest challenge is maintaining consistent productivity while navigating the demands of a high-growth business.
Morning Discipline, Daily Wins
For Dmytro Makarov, each day starts with structure. He wakes at 7:30 a.m. and spends 20 minutes in silence with a cup of black coffee – no screens, no noise, just time to think. This morning ritual is when he sets his priorities and defines his daily goals.
“The morning is the foundation,” Makarov said.
From 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., he blocks off time for strategic work – reviewing analytics, setting direction and making key decisions. Meetings, team management and campaign reviews occupy the rest of the day, wrapping up by early evening. His evenings are spent reading, exercising or watching historical films.
Routine, he said, keeps his mind and body sharp. Whether it is a walk or full workout, physical movement is non-negotiable. “Mental clarity requires physical discipline,” he said. “It is about keeping both mind and body in shape.”
Focus Over All
Although Makarov’s agency has produced campaigns viewed by millions, he pays little attention to surface-level numbers.
“I do not believe in chasing likes or views for the sake of metrics,” he said.
He believes strong marketing is rooted in cultural understanding and authentic connection. A campaign for Intel’s NUC series leveraged influencers with real credibility in the tech community. A project for Durex reached 3.3 million views through organic engagement with the gaming audience.
“In marketing, trust is more valuable than reach,” Dmytro Makarov said. “Influencer marketing, when done right, creates trust that traditional ads can not replicate.”
Reading as a Competitive Edge
Books play a strategic role in Makarov’s leadership. He reads daily and considers literature a primary tool for personal and professional growth. His top recommendations include:
-
“Principles” by Ray Dalio
-
“The Almanack of Naval Ravikant” by Eric Jorgenson
-
“Atomic Habits” by James Clear
-
“Thinking, Fast and Slow” by Daniel Kahneman
-
“Zero to One” by Peter Thiel
“Books shape how I solve problems and how I lead people,” he said.
Redefining Success
Makarov’s agency has launched 524 campaigns and generated more than 2.6 billion digital impressions. Still, he believes the true measure of success goes deeper.
“The most important thing I have done is stay true to my values despite the war, failure and starting over,” Dmytro Makarov said. “And building a team that shares that same commitment is something I will always be proud of.”
For inspiration, he looks to Ukraine’s soldiers, teachers and volunteers. He also finds clarity in quiet, personal moments – a phone-free walk, a deep conversation with a friend.
“I am not a genius,” Makarov said. “I just stay focused, work hard and care about doing something that actually matters.”
