Update: UTC campus is all clear. Lockdown lifted. Police say there is no evidence of a threat.
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) went into lockdown on Aug. 21 after receiving reports of a potential active shooter on campus, according to a statement released on social media.
“All individuals on the UTC campus should remain on lockdown,” the university announced. “Do not move unless directed by law enforcement. Campus facilities are currently being searched by police.”
Earlier in the day, the school confirmed that it had received reports of a “possible active shooter in the University Center or Library.”
The Chattanooga Police Department stated around 1 p.m. that officers were working to verify the reports of gunfire, noting they had “not located any victims.”
Chattanooga police and campus officers were backed by the Tennessee Office of Homeland Security, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
