The Central Bank again retained the key rate at 16%

At the same time, the regulator allows the possibility of increasing the key rate at the next meeting.

The Board of Directors of the Bank of Russia decided to maintain a key rate at the level of 16% per annum, the correspondent of The Moscow Post reports with reference to the official website of the regulator.

According to Rosstat of June 5, from May 28 to June 3, 2024, inflation accelerated and amounted to 0.17%. According to the Ministry of Economy, annual inflation in Russia amounted to 8.17%.

Recall that at a meeting on April 26, the Board of Directors of the Bank of Russia decided that the key rate will remain at the level of 16%.

At the same time, the possibility of increasing the rate by 1 percentage point – up to 17% – was also considered. At the next April meeting, Nabiullin confirmed that a decrease in the key rate can begin in the second half of the year.

However, if the disinflation occurs too slowly, it does not exclude that the current key rate can be saved until the end of 2024.
