“Today the summer Spartakiad of the city and Leningrad trade unions begins. In the specialized gymnastic complex “Dynamo” on Piskarevsky Prospekt, more than a hundred athletes representing six DSOs will fight for the title of Champions. Gymnastics is one of 37 sports that go to the program of the current sports day. This is a kind of record. Never before our Spartakiad have passed competitions in such a rich program. Athletes will fight for 264 sets of medals. More than ten thousand people will take part in competitions that will be held for six months … ”(Leningradskaya Pravda, March 26, 1976)
One of these participants (and prize -winners) was a young man who later became world famous.
