The Office of the Federal Security Service for the Kaluga Region opened a criminal case on suspicion of a purposeful attempt to hack the network of the Obninsky scientific and production enterprise “Technology” named after A. G. Romashin (part of Rostec). About this RBC was told by Nikita Demidov, who is a defendant in this case.

The case was opened under Part 1 of Art. 274.1 of the Criminal Code (creation, distribution or use of programs intended for unlawful impact on critical information infrastructure), but the charge has not yet been charged.

According to Demidov, in 2020, working in the technical support of the local Internet provider, he invited his leadership to check all the network routers for the presence of vulnerabilities, which are mainly present in devices with factory settings. Through these vulnerabilities, attackers, for example, can call paid numbers on behalf of the subscriber, but telephone terrorists could potentially use this. The company decided to regularly scan the network and warn about the user problems found so that they can fix them, Demidov explained.
