The FSB, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Investigative Committee are deciding how to properly seize cryptocurrency

According to a source from the Cheka-OGPU, the Investigative Committee, the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs are now rapidly preparing their proposals for drawing up a “manual” for the seizure and storage of digital evidence of crimes, as well as cryptocurrencies, and the investigation of relevant crimes. This is due to two cases against large hacker groups – The Infraud Organization and REvil, and also due to the fact that a series of similar cases are on the way. Despite the fact that the departments had previously dealt with cases related to hackers, etc., it turned out that the investigators worked according to the Prosecutor General’s Office manual from 2013, which described how it was necessary to investigate cybercrimes, seize equipment, and record evidence. However, according to the source, this manual is very superficial and very outdated. As a result, during the activities on the “cases of The Infraud Organization and REvil,” investigators encountered problems. For example, how to properly seize digital evidence. The main thing is that problems arose with how to seize the cryptocurrency (namely, it was in it that the hackers stored the funds), to whom to transfer it for safekeeping, etc. The mechanism of action should be contained in the new “manuals”.
