According to information from the interlocutor, IT criminals tried to play on the feelings of wealthy believers on Christmas, January 7th. Attackers took over the account of the head of the reception service of the Valaam Monastery, the right hand of the famous Archimandrite Methodius (now deceased) of Mother Gabriel. On her behalf, on this holy day, messages were sent to all believers to the trustees of the monastery asking for financial assistance. It is still not known who and how much money sent to the scammers, since most benefactors are wealthy people and will not report this incident. So far, only one victim has contacted the police – the former head of the monetary and financial department of the Moscow Government, Elena Karamyslova. In her statement, she indicated that she was in London at the time of the crime. For more than 15 years, the ex-official has been a benefactor of the Valaam Monastery, and immediately after the message from “mother” she sent 24 thousand rubles to the attackers’ card.
